valitsVALidating Informal Transversal Skills of young workers in seasonal tourism
Project number: 2016-1-ES01-KA202-025068
Implementation period: 01.12.2016 – 30.11.2018

Project description: The issue of seasonality in tourism has long been a source of concern expressed in EU publications and it is feared that the intense concentration of touristic activities in a relatively short period of time “may have dramatic negative impact on local economies for the whole year” (Ecorys, 2013).

The main objective of the VALITS project is to help young seasonal workers break the cycle of high season activity followed by low season unemployment. This will happen by creating a tool for validating their informal transversal skills which include key competences such as language skills, interpersonal skills, customer service and organizational skills and that have been gained through their informal and non-formal work experience and learning.

golic.logoThe current stage of the development of GOLIC GUIDE Project - Guide to linguistic competence for tourist guides and tour leaders (2014-1-PL01-KA202-003400) has come to a successful end. The organisations from the five partner countries worked hard in order to develop and adapt attractive Guide with good practices and examples when dealing with foreign tourists. The Guide contains 60 good practices and examples (12 for each partner country) describing different aspects from the tourist guide’s job – proper and improper reactions in different situations; dealing with problems; improving the service; etc.  The collection also presents various cultural and social specifics of different nations and countries with which every professional tourist guide should be familiar.

The 3rd partnership meeting

We are happy to inform you that the third international partnership meeting took place in Berlin, on 8th and 9th October, this year. The meeting was attended by 16 representatives from all partner organizations.
What did we do?

One of the main objectives of the meeting was to establish a clear division of tasks in the further process of creating content for language courses for tourist guides. Partners agreed on the details of the structure of the modules and types of exercises. Because of different subjects of the modules, the structure may slightly differ but there will be always 5 common elements: audio recording/audio scripts, a listening task, vocabulary exercises, grammar exercises, a pronunciation exercise. More details can be found in “GOLIC modules” section.

golic.logoIn this Newsletter we have two very good pieces of news: the GOLIC GUIDE national research has officially been concluded and the second GOLIC GUIDE meeting between partners, held in Mallorca 6-7.05.2015 was a great success. Many crucial steps have been made towards making GOLIC GUIDE the language app a reality.

Next steps
