Country report on diversity management and inclusion at workplace - The case of Bulgaria

DIME4After a few months of a detailed desk research and fieldwork on the analysis of obstacles for employment of migrants and ethnic communities in SMEs and NGOs from the perspective of employers in Bulgaria, Know and Can Association finalized the national report on diversity management and inclusion at the work place with focus on ethnicity.

The research began in early 2021 with documentary analysis and literature review of current European and national policies and practices on ethnic inclusion in the workplace, as a sounding board for the further analysis.
The preliminary analysis was then further elaborated via the applied fieldwork, the geographical areas of which are Sofia-capital and Veliko Tarnovo regions in Bulgaria. In order to ensure objective and relevant primary data in line with the mechanics of the grounded theory, the field study was supported by a focus group. The focus group was carried out with the representatives of SMEs and NGOs, 7 women and 3 men. The participants got to discuss six questions with each other via unstructured approach. Each question was connected to policies and practices of their organisations in relation to six areas of the Active Measures model. The goal was to identify main barriers and good examples for diversity management with focus on ethnicity for each area of the model from the perspective of employers.
