If you have an interest in short films, we invite you to a youth film festival where we will present 10 films created by talented and inspiring young people from Bulgaria on various social and societal topics. The festival will take place on January 3, 2024 in Hotel Borika, Chepelare. And now continue reading to find out what films the youth have prepared.
Here are 5 of the movies that you can expect:
Inspiring the younger generation: the film introduces us to two inspiring youth workers who share their views on the challenges facing young people today. In this enlightening conversation, they offer guidance, hope and encouraging messages for the next generation.
Park Clean-Up: The film takes us into the heart of Sofia and shows us young people armed with nothing but determination and a bag to pick up litter. It presents a humble initiative that is very easy to implement but can make a big difference. It's amazing how much rubbish can accumulate in our beautiful city, but each of us can contribute to making this happen less and less. Passing on the torch of responsibility affirms a shared commitment to caring for the environment. Every piece of litter picked up is a small step towards restoring the natural beauty of our urban oasis. Maintaining our surroundings and public spaces is a shared mission. A declaration that we want a better, more awesome place to call home- for a cleaner, greener tomorrow!
Concrete Horizons: the film takes us to the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, where the sea has long been our refuge, a place for relaxation and connection with nature. Here, where the sea kisses the land, the eternal dance of the waves unfolds. Like whispers from the depths, they tell stories of antiquity. But even paradise is not immune to change. In just a moment, the landscape is transformed. The once untouched shores now bear the scars of progress - a testament to the insatiable appetite for development. Over the years, our coastline has witnessed a transformation, with concrete giants now rising where nature once ruled. We have to ask what is the cost of uncontrolled development? Are we prepared to sacrifice our natural wealth for short-term gains? See what else the youth have to tell us by watching the film.
Neighbourhood Chronicles: the film takes us on a walk in the capital's Lozenets neighbourhood, passing through beautiful, luminous gardens, delicate beds and many flowers intertwined among picturesque houses and low buildings. Alongside this beauty and tranquility, uncharacteristic of a big city, we encounter garbage thrown directly into the street, muddy puddles and dislocated tiles where it is very easy to get dirty, fall or twist an ankle. After skipping the urban challenges, we again encounter quiet and beautiful little streets filled with children's laughter and forest sounds. Unfortunately the children's laughter is drowned out by the city noise and the forest sounds are almost inaudible from the car horns. After watching the film, we think not so much about how many different angles a neighborhood can have, but about the responsibility we-the people, the citizens, the local community-have for making our street, neighborhood, city, state, and the world around us a better place with more quiet streets and even more fulfillment.
A harvest of memories and wisdom: Zlokuchene, a place nestled in the valley of the Maritsa River, abounding in natural beauty and richness. This is the place where the girl telling this sweet story spent every summer vacation as a child, under the loving care of her grandparents. The film introduces us to our narrator's grandfather- a true embodiment of our roots and heritage, the keeper of a charming garden nestled in the valley where the land bears its fruit with age-old wisdom. His garden is more than just a few rows of plants, it is a living testament to the connections between generations, a repository of traditional knowledge and a celebration of the rural way of life. It is a legacy of skills passed down through time and a reminder that our roots are a source of strength and support. The film makes us reflect on a deep connection to the land and feel an appreciation for the beauty of life that in many cases lies in its simplicity.
We look forward to seeing you at the festival!
