Name: JudEx+: Towards a child-friendly justice in cases of sexual violence against children

The right of children to have their say in judicial procedures that affect them is stated by article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child [UNCRC].

The main goals of the project are as follows:

To promote Article 12 of the UNCRC and the CoE Convention on the Protection of Children against sexual exploitation and sexual abuse in relation to the right of the child to be heard and involved in decision making, whether at home, in the general life of the community, at school or in individual legal or administrative matters in cases of sexual violence.
To improve the child’s experience position when entering the judicial system in cases of sexual violence against children
To improve the skills of professionals involved in representing children in judicial proceedings through trainings which take into consideration children’s rights, their developmental needs and social background in countries where the Lanzarote Convention has been recently ratified.

JudEx+ Training Manual - targeted at stakeholders on child-friendly justice, particularly professionals involved in legal and judicial proceedings related to children, such as legal practitioners, police officers, social welfare officers, health workers, teachers/school staff, and NGO staff working to support children in the process.
JudEx+ Training Programme - a forum for exchanging knowledge and experiences on child-friendly judicial proceedings in cases of sexual violence against children, encouraging professionals to be informed, collaborate, and take into consideration the rights and needs of children in all stages of the proceedings.
Country Reports – based on the outcomes from the desk-research, interviews, and focus group on children participation on judicial procceedings.

Activities
To research, analyse and assess partner countries’ specific judicial practices in cases of sexual violence against children with a particular emphasis on the child’s experience of the procedures.
To assess existing gaps in relation to the training needs of professionals involved in the judicial procedures in cases of sexual violence against children.
To highlight good practices on child-friendly judicial procedures in cases of sexual violence against children through a comprehensive GPMap (Good Practices Map) to be used as a reference for professionals in future judical procedures.

JudEx+

On January 15th and 16th 2016 seven organisations from six EU countries (Cyprus, Bulgaria, Italy, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom) have come together in Cyprus for the first partnership meeting of JudEx+: Towards a child-friendly justice in cases of sexual violence against children (JUST/2014/RCHI/AG/PROF/7036). The humanitarian and independent institution “Hope For Children” UNCRC Policy Center, is the leading partner of this project funded by the Rights, Equality & Citizenship programme of the European Union, implemented in cooperation with Know & Can (BG); Frederick University (CY); CESIE (IT); Folkuniversitetet (SE); University of Primorska (SI), and Rinova (UK).

Know and Can is happy to announce that became a partner in the project JudEx+: Towards a child-friendly justice in cases of sexual violence against children, with project number-JUST/2014/RCHI/AG/PROF/7036.
