Know and Can Association began its participation in project Working with Children and Teenagers in Janakkala (2015-2-FI01-KA105-009129) which is being funded by Key Action 1, sector Youth, activity European Voluntary Service of the Erasmus + programme. 2 more organizations are taking part in the project: Janakkalan kunta sivistystoimi from Finland and Experiment e.V. from Germany.
The Association sent one EVS volunteer to Janakkala, Finland. She departed on the 28-th of August 2015 and will work at an youth house and at schools for the period of 11 months. The main part of the volunteer’s activities will be conducted at the local youth house. She will participate in the organization and management of the centre’s activities and will implement various activities with the youngsters thus stimulating them to spend their leisure time in a pleasant and healthy way. The volunteer will also be involved in the organization of international youth camps. Apart from the work at the youth centre, the volunteer will assist teachers at several local schools with the arrangement of their classes. She will try to introduce local students to the Bulgarian culture, history and language.
Prior to her flight the volunteer took part in the one-day pre-departure training which was held at the Know and Can Association’s office. She was introduced to EVS and the Erasmus + programme, her rights and duties as an EVS volunteer and the role of the organizations that are participating in the project. Furthermore, the volunteer discussed with the Association’s staff her motivation for taking part in the project as well as her expectations for the voluntary service.
