Name: CIT4VET – Open Online Catalogue of Intercultural Tools for Vocational Education and Training

Intercultural competencies (IC) are essential to be effective in today's culturally diverse reality. The importance of IC has been recognised by the European Commission and is being acknowledged by more and more educational entities. Nonetheless, the extent to which intercultural competence development is included in education varies from country to country. Many countries still haven’t included intercultural education in key education pathways. The situation is even worse when it comes to the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector and VET trainers in particular.

As a result, there are many VET trainers who are experts in their field, but when it comes to knowledge or experience in delivering their lessons to students from different backgrounds, they have to fill this gap by looking for the right tools on their own. Considering that vocational training can be an effective means of integration for people who have migrated to Europe following the migratory flows imposed by globalisation, helping the trainers in their further development also promotes social inclusion.

To improve and increase the ability of VET Trainers to provide intercultural training to learners from other countries in Bulgaria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Poland by the end of 2020. The project will achieve this through offering easy access to tools in the area of intercultural learning and providing training materials, including instructions on how to apply theory to intercultural training.

In particular, the specific objective is to design and implement an innovative Open Online Catalogue of Intercultural Tools which will be an online application available as an Open Education Resource.
  - Database of intercultural tools – collection of tools developed within previous various initiatives and projects as Open Education Resources and that relate to intercultural education.
  - Training materials about culture. Materials in the form of e-learning, with exercises and tests allowing for self-assessment of IC.
  - Guide on how to develop simulations for intercultural training.

Third CIT4VET Partners meeting

Cit4VET logoThe huge importance of the intercultural awareness and competences is recognized by the EU, the European institutions and all the member-countries. However, there are still many VET trainers who are great experts in their particular field, but when it comes to knowledge or experience in working with students from various backgrounds, nationalities and cultures, they need to fill that gap by searching the right methods and tools on their own.
The project #CIT4VET aims to improve the situation by providing a database with instruments for improving the intercultural competences with VET trainers, institutions and learners.

Cit4VET logoDuring the first months of #CIT4VET project lifetime all partners performed desk and Internet based research in order to fulfil the first step towards the creation of the Database of intercultural tools. The partnership collected more than 100 resources (methodologies, OERs, evaluation methods; self-learning materials, etc) in the sphere of intercultural learning and improvement of intercultural competences in VET sector. The resources are grouped in a table/grid according to previously established criteria and sectors – description of the tool; sector of appliance; mode of learning and interaction, culture focus; target group; level of difficulty; available language versions, etc.

Official start of CIT4VET project

Cit4VET logoIntercultural competencies in today’s reality are a major key competence, also due to the significant growth in migration and the movements of people across countries. Nonetheless intercultural competence development is not yet prevalent in key education pathways. This is particularly true when it comes to the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector and VET trainers in particular.

CIT4VET – Open Online Catalogue of Intercultural Tools for Vocational Education and Training, – addresses this need for intercultural competences in VET education. The project – sustained by a consortium of partners from Bulgaria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands and Poland – helps to improve and enhance the ability of VET Trainers to provide intercultural training by offering:
