INTRODUCTION

The project YouSEE gathered 40 participants coming from different European countries: Italy, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, UK, France, Greece, Hungary, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, Malta & Slovenia for a common goal: to find new and innovative ways for better youth employability and development of entrepreneurship.

The group of participants was diverse by age, knowledge and also experiences as some participants were volunteers and youth workers in their 20’s and others with long history and years of experiences in youth work. This diversity was used for transfer ofknowledge and experiences on one side and for inventing new, fresh ideas on the other side.

Starting from experiences of participants and good practices from local contexts participants with the support of international team of trainers started to develop competences for entrepreneurship: communication skills, creative thinking, problem solving. The second part of training was dedicated to development of new ideas, business plans and project drafts. With the knowledge about EU funding opportunities and with skills developed participants made a draft of the projects and entrepreneurship ideas that will develop later after the training course.

WHAT IS “YOUTH SPIRIT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR EMPLOYABILITY – YOUSEE”?

Project Youth Spirit of Entrepreneurship for Employability was funded by the Youth in Action programme – Action 4 Youth support systems – sub action 4.3 Training e Networking.

Training course was held in Palermo, Italy, 25th May – 2nd June 2013. Its main aim was to respond to today's crisis by contributing to the development of entrepreneurial skills of youth leaders and workers, volunteers and peer educators and support them to undertake initiatives and support other young people in their searching for job opportunities.

Training course addressed the Annual Priorities “Young people's entrepreneurship” & "Unemployment" by providing participants with the necessary skills to empower young people’s spirit of initiative stimulating their mobility & their active participation in society. As stated in the EU 2020, entrepreneurship & self-employment are recognised as key for achieving smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, so through non-formal education & tools project promoted youth spirit of initiative.

Objectives of the project:

  •   to provide youth workers with innovative practices to be employed in the work with youth regarding their job search & their sense of initiative;
  •   to empower unemployed young people with resources to be competent and successful in their job and develop their spirit of entrepreneurship;
  •   to train the participants to face the world of work by preparing them to challenges & developing self-esteem, communication, problem-solving &creative thinking skills;
  •   to transfer knowledge, ideas & good practices among participants, promoting intercultural dialogue &valorising the active contribution of all participant;
  •   to create a network of participants.

Participants were fully included in the project already before the training course; they needed to find one example of the “spirit of entrepreneurship” that inspired them (a story of a start-up, an innovative business, an extraordinary social initiative, a creative way of creating or finding employment etc.) and prepare a presentation for other participants. In that way participants started to think about the entrepreneurship already before coming to Palermo.

As an result of the project participants developed their entrepreneurial skills and gain competences for higher employability – the most tangible results were project ideas and business plans developed by participants that will be a good basis for their future activities.
