Kick-off meeting on the Seniors@ICT project

From 21st to 24th January 2019 in the city of Bolu, Turkey, the first meeting of the ICT@seniors project was held. In the modern world, ignorance of modern digital means of communication, information technology that has a major advantage not only in the labor market but also in everyday life is of great importance not only for the elderly population. Unfortunately, the older age group is the most affected by the lag in this area. In many cases, the desire exists, but training opportunities are limited, both because of the lack of an institutional approach and the lack of awareness of possible learning paths and places.

The project aims to collect best practices from partner countries for initiatives and activities to support training, access to technologies, skills to work with different devices, programs and applications that will, on the one hand, restore competitiveness to the labor market and, on the other hand, improve social life of retired old people. Often the cause of the social exclusion of adults and the name of the inability to work with ICT. The partnership includes organizations from Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Spain, Poland, England and Scotland.
After the meeting, where the tasks between the partners were discussed and distributed, within the framework of an extremely rich cultural and social program prepared by the hospitable hosts, there was a dinner attended by elderly people from the Governorship Senior Center BOVYAM. The dinner was like a prologue of the next day meeting at the center. Elderly people told about their problems, many of whom said they could not use the technique provided by the municipality to connect (both visually) with their relatives, both in Turkey and abroad. E-books, online learning resources, Internet capabilities were just some of the topics that were of interest to older people.
