"This is not an experience that I can only relegate to my volunteering service, but much more probably it is the vocation of a life"- see Giovanna's experience

"I confess that it will not be easy for me to talk about children, elderly people and people with disabilities, and about all the wonderful people I met, according to a spurious reflection. This is not an experience that I can only relegate to my volunteering service, but much more probably it is the vocation of a life, of a commitment that has never abandoned me since the years of my education and training. It is no coincidence that I did it already for work. Of course, the volunteering service was certainly an opportunity to test the skills already acquired, to explore their limits and to learn new ones. But I would lie if it were just this. I would lie to focus on the professionalizing aspect of the umpteenth experience within the social sector. This is not what matters. Not entirely. What I have gained most from the experience of volunteering abroad is a new relational perspective, capable of bypassing the linguistic and cultural gap, which is added to that gap with which we usually consider the difference between "normal" and "disadvantaged groups", whoever they are, between "us" and "them". What I have gained is a new reflection and a renewed enthusiasm, for what I continue to do: be devoted to otherness, and I am here to attest."
