Name: VALidating Informal Transversal Skills of young workers in seasonal tourism

Throughout the EU tourism sector, a majority of people work on short term employment contracts and follow a pattern of intense high season economic activity followed by unemployment in the low season. Yet these workers possess a variety of valuable transversal skills.

The main objective of the VALITS project is to help young seasonal workers break the cycle of high season activity followed by low season unemployment. This will happen by creating a tool for validating their informal transversal skills which include key competences such as language skills, interpersonal skills, customer service and organizational skills and that have been gained through their informal and non-formal work experience and learning.

The project aims at recognising the most valuable for employers transversal skills and ECVET and EQF principles, validating them with the help of the online Tool application, and using the Career Giudance Application to offer suggestions and advice on career opportunities based on personal skillset.

  1. Identify a portfolio of fundamental transversal skills as a result of a survey and analysis
  2. Create and develop an online validation tool for informal transversal skills and competences with graded assessment certificate to complement the CV
  3. Create an online Career Guidance App that will offer recommendations for career options at the labour market with possibilities for permanent employment

Implementation period: 01.12.2016 – 30.11.2018

Project description: The issue of seasonality in tourism has long been a source of concern expressed in EU publications and it is feared that the intense concentration of touristic activities in a relatively short period of time “may have dramatic negative impact on local economies for the whole year” (Ecorys, 2013).
