European teachers training course on tangible programming is about to start

TangIn logo 4Over the next week, starting Tuesday 8th January and with a duration of five days, Universidade de Aveiro (Portugal), in the framework of the TangIn project, is hosting the TangIn European teachers training course on tangible programming. This first edition of this teachers training course addresses selected teachers of the TangIn project partners shools, teaching at primary school level. A total of 16 teachers coming from Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria and Latvia will be together for one week training learning and sharing experiences about tangible programming and how it can be used in daily activities.

The general objective of the course is to promote teachers competences in using tangible programming concepts and tools to foster students inclusion and computational thinking in STEM based subjects. Participants will be introduced to the TangIn resources, such as the tool box of educational activities and the teachers handbook, and with the support of physical interfaces (e.g. controlled robots by blocks or incorporated buttons), learn to promote practical activities with their students in an attractive, fun, pedagogical way.

Experts from Universidade de Aveiro will deliver the training course contents and promote the practical activities, that will include a session in one portuguese school (Agrupamento de Escolas da Murtosa). Complementarly, external experts in didactics and ICT are invited to share their views and knowledge with the participants.

At the end of the course, each of the 16 participants is expected to train another colleague at their home-school, introducing him/her to the tangible programming concepts and tools as well as to the TangIn educational materials (the tool box and the teachers handbook). At a later stage all the course participants and the teachers locally trained will implement pilot sessions with their students at local schools, in Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria and Latvia, that will last from March to June 2019.
